Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill, injured, convalescent, and disabled persons in the hospital.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Makes an assessment of and determines total nursing needs of assigned patients. The patient population would include: the neonate patient, the pediatric patient, the adolescent patient, the young-middle aged adult patient, and the geriatric patient.
The acute care nurse shall formulate a comprehensive nursing plan of care for the medical-surgical patient and collaborate in the overall plan of patient care.
The acute care nurse shall implement a plan of care based on assessment data as well as a sound knowledge base.
The acute care nurse shall assist the patient and significant other to obtain knowledge regarding their disease process and self care through utilization of proper resources.
The acute care nurses shall evaluate and modify the plan of care based on observable responses by the patient and attainment of patient goals.
The medical-surgical nurse shall assure open and timely communication with the patient, their significant others, and team members to ensure the occurrence of effective therapeutic intervention.
The acute care nurse shall be competent and current, adhering to established standards of practice, and will engage in activities or behaviors that characterize professionals.
The acute care nurse shall provide care based on ethical concepts, respect for life, dignity, human worth and the individuality of each human being.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF EMPLOYEE'S SUBORDINATE POSITIONS:
Patient Care Technician
Provide functional work directions to other nursing personnel, such as licensed practical nurses, unit clerks, and patient care technicians.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Current license as R.N. in the state of Ohio.
Current certification in Basic Life Support
Pediatric competent RN must have PALS
Telemetry competent RN must have rhythm analysis and ACLS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk; smell; and hear. The employee is required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Lifting of teaching equipment and supplies will also be required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
