Outside Hospital: This Advanced EMT position only functions within the hospital. No transport duties.

Emergency Department: Under direction of the Emergency Department Manager, EMS Coordinator, Registered Nurse or Paramedic, performs delegated tasks allowed within this job description and scope to assist the Healthcare Team with patient care goals and outcomes. Provides service to all ages including neonate, infant, child, adult, and geriatric.  This position will support duties of Patient Care Technician/Health Unit Coordinator (PCT/HUC) roles combined to most efficiency and effectively serve the patients and support the overall emergency department operational needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Proficient in the basic care and advanced care of the patient.

Reviews face sheet for correct information.  Monitors completion and disposition of all Emergency Records for each visit. Scans forms and distributes forms to appropriate departments. Maintains cleanliness of equipment.  Maintains files, keeps insurance data, and forms current.

Executes faxing of patient records when requested.   Maintains patient confidentiality and follow policies and procedures in the release of medical information.   

Performs patient related clerical duties necessary to assist health care team as they provide care to patients.

Answers telephone calls in a courteous and timely manner.  Responds to all inquiries or routes call to the appropriate person. 

Assists with the operations of the Emergency Department as directed by Manager, Charge Nurse, Staff Nurse Specialist, and EMS Coordinator.

Performs basic care to the Emergency Department patient; including triaging patients, answering call lights, cleaning rooms, monitoring patients with physical or psychological deficits, providing nutrition, performing 12-lead EKGs under orders of Registered Nurse or Provider, and performing phlebotomy tasks after certification to do so. Completes assigned treatments and procedures, under the direction of the Registered Nurse (Phlebotomy, EKG, triaging, etc.).

Under the direction of the RN, assists in meeting the physical and emotional needs of the patient on his / her assigned unit. The patient population would include: the neonate patient, the pediatric patient, the adolescent patient, the young-middle aged adult patient, and the geriatric patient.

Registers and interviews patient and patient's representative to obtain and record name, address, age, religion, persons to notify in case of emergency, attending Physician, and individual or insurance company responsible for payment of bill and other demographic/financial information deemed necessary to complete patient record.

Obtains necessary signatures of consent from patient and explains patient rights to the patient. Prepares ID bracelets and places the band on the Emergency patient.

Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:
High School graduate or general education degree (GED) required.

Currently licensed as an Advanced EMT by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), or current Advanced EMT licensure in Ohio. 

Current CPR certification.

May be exposed to loud noises, exposed to aggressive, violent behaviors from patients, family members and/or visitors.  May be exposed to blood and body fluids, including those with tuberculosis, HIV positive, hepatitis or body infestations.

Must be able to work under stressful conditions, which may occur in emergency situations or a heavy workload.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, caustic and toxic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and radiation.
